MagicBands
MagicBands (MagicBand+s technically) have gained traction in Disneyland, but they are a staple at WDW. Anything you can do on the app (that doesn’t require a visual), you can do with a MagicBand: getting into the park, opening your room, lightning lane check-in, buying stuff… plus the bands trigger haptic interactions at various spots around the parks.
Pre-pandemic, part of your vacation package included getting your MagicBands for free - they would send them in a box. It was very exciting when they arrived in the mail: it meant your trip was almost here and it was time to get next level excited as opposed to just really excited.
These days you get a discount and you can still get your name engraved, but they come in the regular mail. What is nice is that for splits stays, you get one per stay with the discount and the engraving.
The part of the MagicBand that actually does all the work is called the puck. You can take the puck out, put it into a puck holder, and attach it to your regular watch (I got mine from Etsy). The (classic) Mickey Ice Cream Bar keychain is a “MagicBand Buddy” from Believe.Dream.Imagine. They make some really inventive pieces!
Pins and Keychains
I’m not a pin person. Or a keychain person.
I’m told that pin trading is not as big a deal as it used to be. In its heyday people would wear lots of pins on a big sash, hoping to trade them with Cast Members. As someone who likes fridge magnets, I get the appeal.
Tins
These are all from our recent Hong Kong/Shanghai/Tokyo trip and most are from Tokyo Disney Resort. Things like this exist entirely to end up in your grandma’s guest bathroom as a place to keep hotel soaps - after she’s eaten the treats that came inside, that is. It’s omiyage in its purest form!
The cookies and candies that came inside these tins were so unremarkable that I’ve forgotten what they were, but I thought the tins were really cool. And of course we did get one for Grandma!
Random Stuff from the Hotel
I think it’s human nature to want to scoop up all the little branded soaps and sewing kits and combs and slippers and toothbrush kits from the hotel room… why else would they make them so cute? The delux Tokyo hotels do an amazing job. It’s kind of nuts - although it’s a shame they opted for the little sachet instead of doing a Fantasy Springs version of those nice tins!
